My Inspirations

I found this photo online and immediately thought of our sunset theme.  I loved the lighting, linens and the draping.  I also liked the varying sizes of centerpieces, which I'll definitely be incorporating into our floral design.

Flower Inspirations

I saw these centerpieces and got very excited because they not only incorporate our pink/orange sunset colors, but they also have tulips, which will be in my bouquet.  I'd love to have smaller centerpieces like this on either the cocktail rounds or in groupings with other small arrangements on the guest dining tables.

Inspirations From Our Decorator

Picture
This is the inspiration page from Petal & Forrest, which they sent me with my floral and decor quote.  I love the centerpiece ideas, but our groomsmen's boutonnieres will be a different color, as will the pomander used by our flowergirl.  I liked how she incorporated the photo of the room that I liked so much, as well as the monogrammed lighting on the dancefloor, which I also requested.  As the date approaches, I'll be working with Dawn and her team on bringing our vision to life.

Cake Inspiration - Michigan Reception

Picture
I found this cake and really loved it.  I plan have a similar cake, though all elements will be edible (no real flowers).   I worked with A Piece O' Cake in East Lansing, MI to create the cake design.  The layers will be in fondant and the flowers will be made of sugar and will match the flowers used in my bouquet.  Rather than the layers being so plain, I'm going to add groupings of three dots widely spaced across the layers, as well as a few floating sugar rose petals randomly placed around the sides and back of the cake.  The ribbon trim will be in shades of orange and pink.  I believe we're going with a three layer cake, though this may change if we have a lot of people RSVP that they will be attending the wedding.  I'm also having the bakery do a secret groom's cake, which I think will be fabulous!

We have haven't made final decisions about the cake flavors.  The bakery we're using does beautiful work and the cakes taste amazing, but they don't have many options in terms of cake flavors and filling flavors.   I think we're going with wedding white cake with vanilla buttercream filling, raspberry swirl cake with raspberry buttercream filling and lemon cake with lemon curd buttercream filling as the flavors.  The groom's cake will be sour cream chocolate cake with either peanut butter or chocolate buttercream filling.

Cake Inspiration - Florida Reception

Picture
My fiance and I love the idea of doing cupcakes for our Florida reception, which will be much more casual than our reception in Michigan.  We will use Cupcake Spot in Tampa, FL for the cupackes, and we plan to choose 5 or 6 flavors to serve at the party.  We haven't landed on exactly which flavors we'll use since our tasting isn't until the Spring.  We may have the tops of the cupcakes decorated with a common topping/topper to tie them all together, but we haven't decided what that will be yet.

The top of our cupcake stand will have a small layer cake decorated with a cherry-blossom design.  We will save this for our first anniversary, since we won't be able to bring the top layer of our Michigan wedding cake home with us.  The flavor is TBD as we haven't chosen a bakery for that yet.
